Burnley Magistrates' Court heard how Kurt Paul Stephens (53) blew 53 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Stephens, of McLindon Court, Burnley, admitted driving a Vauxhall Corsa with excess alcohol in Frances Street, in the town, on November 18th. The court heard the defendant was trying to address his alcohol issues himself.

Stephens was given a community order, with an eight week curfew, between 7pm and 7am, seven days a week. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Deputy District Judge James Hatton told Stephens: "On three separate occasions, you have previously been in trouble for exactly the same thing. There has been a gap in time since you committed this type of offence. Since that time, you have been before the court for driving whilst disqualified and other motoring matters."
