A DRUNKEN teenager chose a risky way to walk from Brierfield to Padiham - police saw him in the middle of the railway line, a court heard.

Pennine magistrates were told how jobless John Paul Maybury smelled of alcohol and had two cans of lager. The defendant, who said he was going to see friends, was told he couldn’t continue his journey on the line and was abusive. He told officers: “You had better lock me up,” was handcuffed, became aggressive and was taken to the ground.

Maybury (19), of Kensington Street, Nelson, admitted being drunk and disorderly. He was fined £30 with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
