Police are appealing for information after a total of 18 cars were vandalised in Nelson during one afternoon.
Multiple panels on 15 vehicles parked in Causey Foot and a further three parked in Dunderdale Avenue were scratched sometime between 4pm and 7pm on Thursday, September 18th.
The resulting damage is expected to cost well in excess of £6,000 in total to correct.
Police believe the spate is completely random and that the deep scratches were caused by a key or similarly sharp object. Patrols have also been stepped up in that area of town.
Sgt Kim de Curtis said: “We believe this is a one off targeting of residents vehicles which is actively being looked into by the neighbourhood team who are pursuing lines of enquiry.
“Mindless vandalism of this nature is completely unacceptable and I would urge anybody who has any information to come forward.”
