Late-night parking patrols planned around Nelson’s ACE centre

USERS of the ACE Centre, Nelson, are causing problems for people living nearby by ignoring residents-only parking regulations, it was claimed.

Raglan Street resident Scott Johnson said the problem was at its worst on Friday and Saturday nights, and told us he had been verbally abused after bringing the matter to the attention of alleged offenders.

“The signage is too small and the road markings have worn away and could do with being renewed,” said Scott. “We are being forced to park further away from our homes because of people parking in the street.”

Pendle Council spokesman Sandra Farnell said the signage was the maximum allowed by Department of Transport regulations in residential areas, and the road markings had been brought to the attention of Lancashire County Council as highways authority.

She said parking officers would also be asked to carry out late-night patrols in the area in the next few weeks and talks would be held with the ACE Centre.
