Nelson diner damaged in ‘bizarre’ incident

Police have appealed for witnesses after a Nelson diner was damaged in bizarre circumstances at the weekend.

Just after 3am on Saturday, police say a blue Honda Civic was reversed deliberately on two occasions into the Choc Stop Diner in Manchester Road.

The vehicle was left embedded in the shop front causing significant damage and the driver fled the scene on foot.

Sgt Shaun Pearson said: “This is quite a bizarre incident but there will be a reason behind it.

“The car used in the incident was stolen in a burglary in the Manchester area earlier this month.

“However, we believe the information as to why the incident took place will be held locally and the person who did it will be local.”

Anybody who witnessed it or has any information can call police on 101 quoting log number 270 of September 26th.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555111.
