Police are appealing for witnesses following a fire at an industrial estate on the Nelson-Colne boundary last night.

Officers were called by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service around 6-30pm to reports of a fire at Aquaspira Ltd on the Whitewalls Industrial Estate.

There were no reports of any injuries and a number of roads around the estate were closed for nearly two hours.

Substantial damage was caused to an electricity substation, an industrial unit and four cars.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and an investigation is on-going to establish how the incident occurred.

DS Alisa Wilson of Burnley CID said: “Fortunately no one was injured in the fire last night but extensive damage has been caused to a number of buildings and cars on the site.

“At this stage we are treating the fire as suspicious and are keen to speak to anyone who may have information about the incident which could help us with our enquiries.”
