Motorists who park dangerously close to zebra crossings are being warned as part of a crackdown in Nelson.
The warning comes after residents raised concerns to local police about drivers parking on double yellow and zigzag lines around the pedestrian crossing in Railway Street outside Nelson Bus/Rail Interchange.
Police are working with Parkwise to target drivers who put people’s safety at risk by parking dangerously in the town, and officers are urging anyone with information to contact them.
PCSO David Bailey, who covers Walverden and Cloverhill, said: “Residents have raised concerns about drivers parking on double yellow and zigzag lines near to a pedestrian crossing. These restrictions are there for a good reason and drivers who park on them are putting pedestrians in danger.
“A large number of schoolchildren use this crossing. I urge drivers to be more considerate.”
Anyone who wishes to report drivers for parking illegally on zigzag lines can contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45.
