Police investigate alleged kidnap of young woman

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped in Burnley yesterday.

Police were called at around 11pm yesterday (May 27th) following reports of a concern for safety.

Detectives believe a woman had been taken by a man in Middlesex Avenue between 7pm and 8pm, before being transported in a silver Mercedes car to a property in the Wakefield area.

Following enquiries officers attended the address and found an 18-year-old woman.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of kidnap and is currently in custody.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Det. Sgt Lee Walker, of Burnley CID, said: "We have launched an investigation following an alleged kidnapping in Burnley. This incident has left the woman involved extremely shaken and upset and she is currently being supported by specially trained officers.

"While an arrest has been made, we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious in Middlesex Avenue during the time in question.

"It is believed the woman was taken close to Spar and a number of people were in the area at the time.

"If you can assist with our enquiries, please contact us."
