Police witness appeal after 80-year-old dies in crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a man in a collision in Burnley.

The incident occurred at around 9:30pm on Saturday, April 1st, when a Renault Captur travelling along Rossendale Road collided with an unattended Volkswagen Vito, which was parked on the road at the time.

The passenger of the Renault Captur, an 80-year-old man, suffered a chest injury and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he sadly died on Saturday, April 15th.

The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man from Burnley, was arrested on suspicion driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

PS Dave Hurst of the Road Policing Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family of the man who has sadly died.

“An investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the collision is underway and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed what happened to get in touch with us," he added.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the white Captur being driven between Cliviger and the location of the collision, especially those who may have dash cam footage.”
