POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after 51-year-old man was robbed as he walked home in Burnley on Thursday, May 19th.

The robbery took place around 9-20 p.m. in Harold Street near the Jesun takeaway.

The victim was walking along the street when he was punched to the back of the head. When he turned around he was then punched to the face before falling to the ground.

The offenders kicked the victim in the ribs as he lay on the ground and pulled his jacket from him to steal his mobile phone and money.

The man received treatment at the Royal Blackburn Hospital for broken ribs, a black eye and cuts, scrapes and bruises.

DC Sarah Beckley from Burnley Police said: “This is a nasty and unprovoked robbery and I would appeal to anybody that witnessed the offence or with any information to contact police.

“We believe there were up to two offenders involved and prior to the incident the victim had been at the local bookmakers and won over £200 so it is possible the offenders have seen him with this money and followed him.”

Anyone with any information should call Burnley CID Dc 3525 Jon Penson or Dc 3000 Sarah Beckley on 01282 472017 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
