Spurned Nelson man bombarded ex with text messages

A SPURNED man who plagued his ex-partner sent a barrage of text messages - some of them “mildly threatening” - a court heard.

Quality control inspector Adam Marc Hargreaves (28) had been earlier dumped by victim Claire Mullineau because, she would say, he was often possessive and jealous during their four-month relationship, and she found it embarrassing.

Hargreaves did not accept the split very well and continued to contact her. Miss Mullineau agreed to meet the defendant on a casual basis and he swore at her when he saw her out and she was talking to another man, Pennine magistrates were told.

Hargreaves was annoyed at the victim for being on the dance floor with the man in the early hours and when she left with friends, he sent her text messages from 3 a.m. until midday.

The defendant threatened trouble if she didn’t stay away from his friends and then asked Miss Mullineau to ring him as his head was messed up.

Hargreaves, of The Ridgeway, Nelson, admitted harassment without violence last November. The defendant, who told the bench he had been stupid, was given a community order, with 60 hours unpaid work.
