the owners of the derelict Spring Bank Hotel in Manchester Road, Nelson, have been given until the end of the month to show their commitment to restoring the building is genuine.
Members of Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee set the deadline when they met on Monday.
The councillors heard from owners’ representative Nisar Ahmed that as soon as they received council approval for the erection of scaffolding around the building, work would get under way.
Members of the committee had been recommended to ask the council’s Executive to authorise officers to begin urgent works to repair the building, which was said to be in danger of collapse.
But Mr Ahmed told members that, once authority for the scaffolding was given, contractors would be on site to begin work. Members agreed that, as their next meeting was before that of the Executive, the owners of the building should be given time to start work.
If nothing was done, then the recommendation to Monday’s meeting would be invoked, they agreed.
