A DISABLED footballer from Pendle who has won championship medals in the last two seasons has begun his quest for a third title.
But Scott Johnson’s true goal would be see a team for disabled footballers set up here in Pendle - one of the few major centres of population in the county without such a team.
Scott’s first two title successes came in the West Riding Ability Counts League with a team from Bradford in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, and his first game in the Burnley Ability Counts League with Bolton resulted in a 14-4 victory.
Now Scott, who has played 28 times for England, is looking to form a team based locally and is in contact with Pendle Council.
“There are teams in Accrington, Blackburn, Burnley, Preston, Bolton, Manchester and Liverpool, so why not here?,” said Scott. “There should be something here for disabled people to do.”
Anyone interested in setting up a disabled team in Pendle should contact Michael Nadal at the Lancashire Football Association on 01772 624000 or Jackie Nelson at Lancashire Social Servies in Burnley on 425961.
