NEARLY £900,000 worth of repairs are to be carried out at seven Pendle schools.
Lancashire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Schools, County Coun. Susie Charles, has given the nod to repair works as part of a programme totting up to more than £14m. across the county.
Most of the repairs are to roofs and windows and include replacing leaky skylights, roof coverings and window frames.
And many schools will get new boilers to ensure pupils are warm this winter – and their school is more eco-friendly.
County Coun. Charles said: “I am very pleased to be able to agree to a second substantial investment in our school buildings. If this winter is anything like the previous two have been, I shall rest easier knowing our schools in greatest need of repairs are being made warm and weather-tight.”
Mike Hart, Lancashire County Council’s director for resources and planning, said: “Repairs to school buildings have wide-ranging benefits to staff and pupils, as well as mums, dads and everyone else who uses schools.
“This latest round of work will see nearly 100 schools have their windows and roofs fixed or replaced, and improvements to heating and lighting.
“It brings the total spent on repairs to Lancashire schools to over £35m. this financial year.
“Staff and pupils will be warm and dry in their classrooms, which means they can concentrate on the more important business of their education.
“Similarly, the previous round of work included many boiler replacements, which makes schools warmer, greener, and less likely to have to close in severe weather when the old boiler packs in.”
Work will start as confirmed data on repairs becomes available, with a minimum of disruption to schooling.
