Nelson and Colne College student, Lotte Gleeson, has been named the Association of Colleges’ 16 to 18-year-old Student of the Year.

Welcomed to Parliament by MP Andrew Stephenson, Lotte comes from a low-income, single-parent household in a deprived area, but will read Physics at Oxford University after getting A*s and As in her A Levels.

“It was wonderful to hear how education has contributed to Lotte’s life and the brilliant support she has received from Nelson & Colne College,” said Mr Stephenson.

Alongside her studies, Lotte has volunteered with children with special needs and adults with learning difficulties, with Ian Ashman, President of the Association of Colleges, saying: “Lotte is inspiring. I congratulate her on her success.”
