Laneshaw Bridge Primary School pupils castled the rest of competition to win a regional qualifier event.
The under-11 chess team won the regional qualifier for the National Primary School Chess Championship earning the team of Thomas Holgate, Myles Burdge, Caleb Lister, Joe Birks, Rosa Birks and Matthew Fleming a place at the national semi-finals at Pontins in Prestatyn, North Wales.
Mrs Sharples said: “It was a wonderful opportunity for the six team members and their families to enjoy a combination of beach cricket, impromptu football games and hard fought battles across the chess board.
“Their efforts won them a trophy for their school and a silver award. They look forward to their next chess challenge.”
