Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has again continued its long-standing tradition of academic excellence.

Staff and students at the college are celebrating once again, as 2013 proves to be another outstanding year with an A-level pass rate of 100%.

This year, 85% of their A-level students have achieved high grades – A* to C – and 61% have achieved top grades – A* to B.

Other outstanding statistics achieved this year include 136 students gaining the coveted A*/A grades and 69 students have achieved the staggering accomplishment of two or more A*/A grades!

Principal Amanda Melton is understandably delighted with the outstanding results and said: “I am thrilled for all of our students who have worked extremely hard this year and are fully deserving of their excellent success.

“Special thanks must be given to the college’s excellent team of staff for their continued commitment to brilliant teaching. Our students consistently feed back to us how their teachers’ continuous support is a major factor in their success.

“Nelson and Colne has a proud tradition of academic excellence and I am delighted to see that we will continue to serve the educational needs of the community with such great success.

“It is an exciting time for our students. They are a credit to East Lancashire.”

The excellent achievement builds on the college’s on-going success. It has been graded as “outstanding” by Ofsted in two inspections since 2005, and is also a Learning and Skills Improvement Service Beacon College.

The college is also one of only a small elite selection of education establishments to have been awarded STEM Assured® status by the New Engineering Foundation, which recognises excellence in science, engineering, technology and maths.

A large number of students from the college will progress to top universities across the UK.

The college offers “Pre-Professional” programmes including medicine, law, teaching and journalism, and this year, many students have successfully gained places at university to read medicine, architecture, drama, healthcare science, computer science and mathematics, law, journalism: multimedia, classical literature and English, natural sciences and physics with astrophysics. This year’s results, at a 100% A-level pass rate, is further validation that the people of East Lancashire have a truly outstanding college on their doorstep.
