High winds brought down trees in Barnoldswick and Colne last night.

Ben Lane and Greenberfield Lane, Barnoldswick, were blocked for a time and there were fallen branches and leaves scattered about the town.

A major clean-up operation got under way across the town this morning.

And a roadside tree in Castle Road, Colne, was also toppled by the strong winds.

The tree is understood to have fallen into the driveway of a house near the junction with Skipton Road around 9pm last night, causing minor damage to a Vauxhall car and leaving the occupants of the house unable to get out of their front door or off their driveway.

The pavement outside the house was also blocked and Lancashire County Council said the tree would be removed tomorrow.

Elsewhere, branches blew on to Hazelwood Road, Nelson, Victoria Road, Earby and Higher Lane, Barnoldswick, and hoardings were blown over in Vulcan Street, Nelson. All these incidents were dealt with by highways teams last night.

There are also reports of branches falling from trees and scattering parts of Barrowford Park.
