COUNCILLORS have agreed to the funding for a multi-use games area (MUGA) in Marsden Park, Nelson.
But they have expressed concern at a proposal to use the tennis courts in the park as the site for the new facility.
Couns Brian Parker and Mohammed Iqbal told Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee the courts were well used and an alternative site should be found if possible.
The scheme may yet have to overcome another obstacle - there is only £50,000 of the £60,000 funding available and the council’s Executive is to be asked for a supplementary estimate of £10,000 to make up the difference.
Coun. Iqbal said: “It will be used by children from all over and all we are asking of the Conservative-run Executive is to be treated as fairly as other parts of Pendle.”
