A grandma celebrated her 70th birthday by having her first tattoo – and raising money for the Red Cross at the same time.

Dora Jones works on the tills at the Co-op in Earby and decided for her milestone birthday earlier this month to get a tattoo of a butterfly.

At the time the Co-op was collecting for the Red Cross charity, raising funds in the store to help to combat loneliness.

So Dora decided to gain sponsorship for her tattoo, which she had done at Spektra Tattoo Gallery in Barnoldswick, and give the money raised to the Red Cross.

“My grandma just decided on a tattoo for her birthday,” said her grand-daughter Chloe.

“We were a bit surprised as it is her first.

“She has always wanted a butterfly as my grandad, her husband Dave, died many years ago but she always used to see a butterfly after he passed away and she linked it to him.

“She had it done on the top of her arm and she said it didn’t hurt! She has raised £400 so far so she is really happy.”
