Grassroots project not affected by church closure

OFFICIALS of the Grassroots project which is based at St Philip’s Church in Nelson have asked us to point out that it is no way affected by the closure of the church as a place of worship which we reported last week.

Project manager Suzanne Waddicor said: “We remain part of Blackburn Diocese who are committed to St Philip’s (Grassroots) being a centre to serve the needs of the community and to play a part in resourcing the local area.

“We are also in talks with the diocese about continuing to have an area of the building set aside as a quiet space and place of prayer.

“We would like to reassure the community that this internal transfer will not affect any of our comprehensive programme of community activities”.
