BURNLEY women and girls who took part in this year’s Race For Life in Towneley Park have so far raised £61,000 in sponsorship.

In May 1,600 people walked, ran or jogged their way round the 5km course and now organisers want to urge them to return any outstanding sponsor money to raise another £15,000.

Laura Taylor, Race for Life event manager for Burnley, said: “We have had a fantastic Race for Life 2011 season, especially at Towneley Park in Burnley.

“The event this year has so far raised just over £61,000 in sponsorship. However, we still have another £15,000 to go to hit this year’s target which would be an amazing achievement for everyone in Burnley and the surrounding areas who took part and supported the event.

“By returning the money they have raised to Cancer Research UK, it really does make all the fun and emotion of the big day really count.

“I’d also like to thank again everyone who took part or supported our participants this year, as well as our fantastic volunteers who really do help to make Race for Life at Towneley Hall such a special day”

Sponsor money can be paid online at www.raceforlife.org, by calling 0871 641 1111 or by sending a cheque payable to “Cancer Research UK” to Race for Life, PO Box 442, Northampton, NN3 6UU.
