Catholic churches stage Zumbathon for charity

THE parishioners of the Good Shepherd Parish are hoping to keep fit while raising money for charity.

Taking place at Fisher-More Catholic Humanities College, Colne, between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 25th, a Zumbathon will raise money for the When you Wish Upon a Star charity, granting the wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

The event has been organised by members of the parish of the Good Shepherd, made up by churches Sacred Heart, Colne, SS Peter and Paul, Higherford, and Holy Saviour, Nelson.

Fiona Sugden, parishioner and one of the organisers, said: “We want to see people from three to 99 joining us in the school sports hall for an afternoon of exercise and laughter. You don’t need to be an expert, just be willing to give it a go.”

Charlotte De Curtis, of Flava Dance Studio, has donated her time to lead the three-hour session, which people can dip in and out of as they please. For those taking a break or who have attended purely to spectate, there will be refreshments, cakes, games and biscuit decorating to boost funds.

Fiona added: “We really do want this to be a family event.”

Entrance for the Zumbathon costs £4 for adults and £2 for children under 12 and sponsor forms are available from the schools’ offices Monday to Friday and at the back of the churches on Sunday. As this a physical activity, anyone under the age of 18 wishing to take part must get signed permission from an adult.
