The Knights of St Columba Club in Nelson have presented St John’s Ambulance with a new defibrillator in memory of a late member.

On Friday, December 2nd, Grand Knight Michael McLoughlin presented Jason Tyres, the Nelson Area Manager of St John’s Ambulance, with the machine, - which gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

Presented in memory of former member, Tommy Rowlings, whose family were Knights and club members who held a number of events to raise various funds, Tommy’s daughter - Shirley Thornton - was also present to receive the potentially life-saving donation.

The Knights of St Columba is a Catholic men’s organisation which was founded in 1919 and based in the UK. It aims to assist its members, the community, and the Catholic Church in its Social Teaching, with the Nelson branch located on Forest Street.

Primarily a social establishment, the Nelson KSC and Catholic Club features numerous entertainers and different artists for it’s members and their guests.
