Fire-fighters have been tackling a huge blaze which is reported to have ripped through the site of a Colne plastics firm this evening.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze, near the Woodheads and the Asda store, on the Nelson-Colne boundary, around 7pm. Flames and billowing smoke could be seen pouring from the factory site by neighbours, some of whom believed cars at the site had been caught up in the incident.

Reports on social media talked of lorries from a nearby haulage firm being driven away to safety from the area and initial fears were that Woodheads itself had set alight.

Some residents in the area reported problems with their electricity supply during the incident.
