Barnoldswick band Tyro in 'Live and Unsigned' success

A BARNOLDSWICK band has its dream in sight, having reached the regional finals of one of the UK's toughest music competitions.

Members of newly-fomed pop rock band Tyro had nothing to lose when they entered the first round of "Live and Unsigned" a few weeks ago, and never expected to make it this far.

They were one of only 60 acts of 400 hopefuls to reach the next round, and will take to the stage again on March 7th, hoping to impress the judges.

Live and Unsigned is the largest national music competition for original artists, bands, vocal groups and solo artists.

Tyro will play in front of the country's top producers and, if they win, will receive the ultimate prize of a recording contract.

The band formed just over a year ago and consists of Alex Stevenson, Tom Faulkner, Lee Cunningham, Rob Idle and Mat Millington.

Since their first gig last April, they have hit the ground running, having already recorded a five track EP at one of the North's finest music studios.

Band member Tom Faulkner is sure their success won't go to their head: "We were really nervous before our first audition at Live and Unsigned and were thrilled to get through to the next round. At the next audition, we will be playing an original track and our own take of a song by Lady Gaga called 'Just Dance'.

"Obviously, it would be amazing to win and get signed, but whatever happens it is great experience to play in front of such an experienced panel".

Tyro will also play at venues around Pendle in the coming months, their next gig being at the Residence Bar, Barrowford, on March 20th.
