Barnoldswick burglar promises to pay back victim

A TEENAGE raider was told to sort his life out by Pennine magistrates who spared him jail.

The court was told how Robert Paul Simpson promised to pay back his victim if he got a job after the Bench was told they could not order compensation as they were restricted by Government rules.

Simpson (18), of Colne Road, Barnoldswick, admitted burglary with intent to steal. The justices told him he was lucky he was not being sent to prison.

The chairman said the defendant had to start taking responsibility for himself and added if Simpson carried on drinking like he was he would end up in custody. He added: "You are spoiling your whole life."

The defendant was given a 12-month community order with 12 months supervision and a five-month curfew between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
