Barnoldswick firm backs British bid to win Tour de France cycle race

BARNOLDSWICK company Pennine Events has helped launch Britain's bid to pedal into the history books by winning the Tour de France for the first time.

The events management company, of Meadow Way, organised aspects of the launch of Team Sky.

The team consists of the UK's best professional riders, who will compete in the Tour de France with the aim of providing Britain with its first winner of cycling's top race.

During the launch event, Pennine Events organised three rides through the streets of London involving the professional riders and 175 members of the public who had won a competition to take part.

The company also organised an inspirational media interview with Lancashire's Bradley Wiggins, who came fourth in the Tour de France in 2009 and is now a member of Team Sky.

Mark Sandamas, director of Pennine Events, said: "This was a great start to the year. It was fantastic to be involved with and to meet all the key people in what is Britain's bid to eventually win the Tour de France.

"We were really proud to be part of the launch and to make it happen".

The company, which has offices in Barnoldswick and Wigan, specialises in organising sports, leisure and health events for councils, charities, health authorities and private companies across the country.

It regularly organises events for British Cycling, the UK's governing body for cycle road racing, as well as corporate events and tourism-related, health and promotion events
