A BARNOLDSWICK woman has appealed for a driver to come forward after she suffered a broken toe.

Joan Thompson was walking across Church Street on the morning of February 4th when the back of her foot was clipped by a parking car.

Mrs Thompson said: “I was almost across the road. There was a driver reversing into a space and the back end of his car just caught the back of my foot. I stumbled forward and must have banged the front of my foot on the kerb. The driver got out and asked if I was all right but I was in shock and didn’t want to make a fuss so I said I was fine and he left.

“He said he had been keeping an eye on an elderly man who was crossing the road, and hadn’t seen me. By the time I got home and took my boot off, I couldn’t move my foot at all and felt sick. I had to go straight to A&E where they said the big toe bone is basically smashed. I’m going to be off my feet for at least six weeks.

“It was just one of those split second things but I would like the driver to make himself known to the police.”

A spokesman for Pendle police said the incident had been logged, but because the driver had stopped and checked Mrs Thompson was all right after the accident, they were not looking for him. The driver can make himself known to the Road Policing Team by calling 472542 and quoting the incident number LC-20120204 0685.

I agree, the driver did all they were supposed to do. I think this is a blatent compensation claim exercise. I am sorry that the lady is injured, but she should have looked where she was going.... the number of people i see walking behind reversing cars is unbelievable. I hope she feels better soon.... but I think this whole article is an example of how we are turning in to a 'If there is blame there is a claim' culture! Not good!

TO be fair why appeal when he stopped and did try to assist? it's like saying he is wrong even though he did everything sorrect. Why does he need to go to the police? and to be fair if hes reversing and you walk behind a moving car........ two way thing. Im never one to post negitive comments but all i can think is he comes forward then gets sued! Sorry
