Brownies brighten up Barnoldswick bus terminal

THE 7th Independent Methodist Brownies of Barnoldswick have helped to brighten up the Foster Road bus terminal with the help of a local garden centre.

The girls had taken part in a litterpick with town councillor Jennifer Purcell a few weeks ago and told her they would like to make a garden somewhere in the town.

She suggested they do a makeover on the planters close to the bus shelter in Foster Road and Heys Garden Centre agreed to provide blooms for these beds.

The planting coincided with a poster competition the Brownies had been doing and Coun. Purcell invited the retiring Mayor of Pendle along to make a presentation to the winner, Sophie Catlow, and to find out what the girls had been doing to brighten up the town.

Their efforts earned the girls their gardening badge, but also provided Coun. Purcell's husband, Harry, with a job for the summer as she volunteered him to undertake all the watering needed.

The girls named the beds, "Fosters In Bloom" and Coun. Purcell went on to praise their efforts in helping to make the town look nice.
