Colne pub bouncer kicked customer in head

A BOUNCER who attacked a customer and left him injured has walked free from court.

Jamie Rees had been chief door supervisor at the Shepherds Arms, Colne, when he ejected Christopher Wilkinson and then kicked him in the head when the victim ended up on the floor.

Mr Wilkinson then fell backwards and hit his head on the kerb, Burnley Crown Court heard.

The hearing was told that when the defendant, who had assaulted a customer once before while working as a supervisor, was spoken to by police he gave the name of another doorman.

Rees, now living in Colwyn Bay, had earlier admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The defendant, a 31-year-old father of four, appeared in court the week after his partner had gone through a stillbirth, and wiped away tears as his barrister told the court about the tragedy.

Rees was given 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, with a three-month curfew. He must also pay 250 compensation to Mr Wilkinson.

The court was told the victim, who suffered cuts and bruises, picked out the defendant on a video identity parade.

Mr Tim Storrie (for the defendant) said the assault was nasty but perhaps not the worst, al-hough it had been delivered in a casual manner, and Rees did have a record of similar violence.

He had lied to the police about who he was probably because he had done it before.

The defendant, who had left the security business and had now found work elsewhere, had suffered the loss of a child at 20 weeks pregnancy with his partner. He had been to a vicar and asked for the child to be buried.

Mr Storrie said ordinarily, people in the defendant's position went to custody. He added: "There could be little complaint from him if he were sent to prison today."
