Colne dad (36) found dead at home
Ian Landers
TRIBUTES have been paid to a “loving father and brilliant son” found dead at his Colne home.
Ian Landers (36), of White Grove, died suddenly on January 15th. He was found hanged.
His mother, Tina, paid tribute to the father-of-two who had been a well-known character in town. She said: “He was my loving son and absolutely adored his children - Nicole, who is 16 and Dylan (11).
“He has always been a loving father and his children were his pride and joy.”
Mr Landers grew up in Colne and attended Park High School after a brief spell at Fisher-More High School.
He had suffered from depression from a young age, yet had cared for his mother when she was sick.
Tina said: “He was the sweetest boy you could have wished for and, when he was 15, I got ill and Ian took charge and cared for me.
“He went on to have his children and gave them all his love.”
Mr Landers had many friends, and scores of tributes have been left on a Facebook tribute page, which his family say have been a great comfort. He also leaves behind brother, Michael.
For the last 15 years, he worked for Furnico in the wood mill –something he loved. His colleagues held a one-minute silence for him on hearing the news.
Manager Peter Calverley said: “Ian was an integral part of the team at Furnico and it has been a big shock to everyone. He worked here for around 15 years and was a good lad.
“He was a very hard worker and will be missed by all the lads in the factory.”
His daughter Nicole added: “He was a real comic, very jovial and full of funny stories. We’re going to really miss him.”
And son Dylan said: “He will always be in my head and heart and I’ll always have lots of good memories of him.”
Mr Landers was also a talented artist and had landscaped his garden to a high standard before his death.
He also had a passion for music and his favourite song Imagine by John Lennon is to be played at a memorial service for him.
Although his funeral has taken place, there will be a service to celebrate his life at Holt House in Colne, where people will be given the opportunity to share their stories and memories of Ian.
A date is yet to be set, but is expected to be over the forthcoming weeks and will appear in the Colne Times. Tina added: “We want to say a big thank you to everyone for all their help, especially Donna Pearce and Sarah Griffin, who we can’t thank enough.
“Everybody has been fantastic and it just shows what an impression Ian made on everyone.”
Any donations are being received for MIND. They can be made through www.justgiving.com/ianlanders
An inquest into Ian’s death is expected to take place shortly
