Colne woman to celebrate 70th birthday with parachute jump
a COLNE woman will celebrate her 70th birthday on Sunday - by doing a parachute jump!
Mrs Raye Halstead will be undertaking the charity jump near Lancaster along with her son-in-law, Duncan Hammond, with other family members, friends and wellwishers in attendance.
All money raised through her efforts will go to Help for Heroes.
Throughout her life, Raye has supported a number of charities and worked for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for 36 years.
However, like so many people of all ages, she has incrasingly moved by the bravery of our servicemen and women who defend our nation in various ways in different places.
Raye said: “I was particularly touched at seeing a young ex-serviceman - an amputee - in my home town of Colne. Far from feeling sorry for himself, he was getting on with life with a smile on his face.”
Raye - and Help For Heroes - said they would be most grateful for all donations in support of the charity. These can be made via www.justgive.org/registries/wishlist/donate/12feb2012parachutejumpHelp4Heroes or www.justgiving.com/Duncan-Hammond.
