Countdown to Pendle Cycle Fest
IT'S a bike bonanza in Pendle this month. This year's Bike Week, which runs from June 19th-27th, coincides with the prestigious Pendle Cycle Fest.
Throughout June and July, the Cycle Fest will bring the nation's top cycle races and family fun to the heart of Lancashire. This includes the National Road Race Championships, on Sunday, June 27th.
"Come and watch the country's top Olympic and World stars compete to be crowned National Champion!" said Tricia Wilson, of Pendle Council.
"And Bike Week gives us another great opportunity to get more people in Pendle cycling. We're running a number of activities throughout the national week to encourage residents to get their bikes out of their sheds and join in," she added.
Encouraging residents to leave their car keys at home and cycle to work, Pendle Council is offering commuter breakfasts on Monday, June 21st, and Wednesday, June 23rd.
Riders can join one of two groups and cycle in from Barden Mill or Colne Leisure Centre. The groups will set off from the car parks on both days at 8 a.m.
They will cycle to Nelson centre via the canal towpath and be offered breakfast on arrival.
Spaces must be booked in advance with Tricia by ringing 661051.
If you don't have your own bike or it's too far to cycle in to work, you can borrow a bike for a pleasant evening guided ride which is not too strenuous.
There are two rides. The first is with Yvonne from Go Velo on Wednesday, June 23rd, at 6 p.m. It goes from Seedhill car park to Caf Cargo at Foulridge Wharf for refreshments, and back.
The second is with Imran from Wheels within Wheels on Friday, June 25th. It goes from Seedhill car park to Barden Mill for refreshments, and back.
If you have your own bike you can just turn up, or borrow one through Pendle Leisure Trust Let's Cycle scheme. Again, contact Tricia on 661051.
Have you ever felt as though you would like to get on a bike but are too scared as you're not sure about road safety?
Join Kirsti from Go Velo for an informal introduction to road safety on Tuesday, June 22nd, at 6 p.m. at Seedhill car park.
You will be given a certificate at the end of the short course. Book in advance with Tricia on 661051.
You might also like to know more about maintaining your bike. Go along to an informal bike maintenance drop-in session with Yvonne and Matt from Go Velo at Colne Leisure Centre car park at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 24th.
There's the chance to join Pendle Leisure Trust's "Let's Cycle" for a lunchtime guided ride on Friday, June 25th, meeting outside the ACE Centre, Nelson, cycling to Pendle Heritage Centre and back.
Or you could meet up with Let's Cycle's regular monthly guided ride on Sunday, June 27th. Cyclists should meet at Seedhill car park at 11 a.m. to cycle to Barden and back.
