Ideas for Colne heritage trail grow
FUNDING has yet to be sought for a town trail through Colne, but ideas are already flowing in.
Pendle Council's Economic Development and Tourism Unit is working out anticipated costs for the trail, including printing, distribution and information boards.
Although funding has not yet been identified, a report to councillors said it is anticipated Colne Connected may be interested in part funding the project.
So far, it has been agreed the trail should start at Primet Hill and end at Colne Cemetery in Keighley Road.
Possible links from the town's Boundary Mill store to the trail was thought to be of high importance, as a high number of visitors visit the complex and need to be encouraged into the town centre.
The possibility of having two routes was also discussed – one shorter, linear route leading to the town centre and a larger route covering areas of interest outside the town centre.
Coun. Tony Greaves also suggested modern buildings should also be included, such as the Sure Start Colne Children's Centre and its history.
Posters will now be displayed throughout the town asking any groups or individuals for their ideas or their involvement with the project to contact the council on 01282 661661.
It is hoped the leaflet would be available in tourist information centres across Pendle, including the Discover Pendle centre at Boundary Mill.
