Jessica Foxley stage to be launched at Colne R&B Festival in memory of crash victim (21)
YOUNG local musicians are being given a rare chance to take centre stage during this year's Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne.
And there are just two stipulations – you have to be good, and you have to sing the Blues!
The Jessica Foxley Stage is being created in memory of the rising Colne star who was tragically killed last July.
It will take place on the British Stage at Pendle Leisure Centre on the closing night of the festival - Monday, August 30th.
It is being launched by a new musical project called Fast Forward, headed by Jessica's parents, Paul and Margaret Foxley.
Mrs Foxley said: "We want to encourage talented and aspiring singers and musicians who are too old for help from the local 'youth' organisations, but need backing for development from someone."
It is poignant the stage is being held on the festival's 21st Anniversary - Jessica's age when she died.
The talented musician, who worked at the Muni box office in Colne, was killed, along with her boyfriend Tom Petty and friend Philip Wright, in a car crash in Skipton Old Road.
But it is hoped her memory will live on through her love of music.
East Lancashire bands are now being asked to audition for one of a number of sought-after places.
And not only will they win the chance to play in front of hundreds of both national and international Blues fans, they will also win the chance to produce a demo at Studio 11 Recording Studios at the ACE Centre, Nelson.
Festival organiser Alison Goode said: "Jessica was a young artist who had just started to climb the musical ladder. We want to honour her talent and support other local people like her by giving them an opportunity to be heard and perform at such an established event.
"We are asking R&B-based bands to send in demos and then some will be chosen to perform at the Muni in Colne on Sunday, May 16th. Everyone will be welcome to come along and listen and help us decide who will perform at the Blues Festival in August."
All demos or links to musical downloads must be sent to Alison Goode, Festival Organiser, Bank House, 61 Albert Road, Colne, Lancs, BB8 0BP, by Friday, April 9th.
