M65 closed as man is talked down from bridge
PART of the M65 in Burnley was closed for almost an hour early this morning after a man was spotted hanging over the motorway bridge.
The incident happened at 1-47 a.m. on the bridge at junction 11 on the westbound carriageway, close to the turn-off for Burnley town centre.
Police managed to talk down the 24-year-old, who they said was under the influence alcohol, and he was due to undergo a mental health assessment.

Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11:00 AMI saw someone about to jump from one of the bridges about a year ago. Many people had already stopped and were calling to him. It was a terrifying site. I never found out whether he had jumped or not. How sad!

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 01:15 PMI agree dee jo, buts its become such a regular occurence on these bridges that the cost of having to shut the motorway etc is probably the same long term as caging it. Like you say people will always find a way of topping themselves, thats their right, but its not their right to endanger innocent motorists using the motorway.
