A PENDLE businessman has helped a Colne school fulfil a dream by funding a new cycle circuit.

Kevin Berkins donated £16,000 raised at a Fence Gate Inn Ball earlier this year to give the new track the green light at Pendle View Primary School.

Since the opening last month, the school has incorporated the 300-metre long track in with the yard and white lines have been painted on it to give it a road-like feel.

Further funds have seen the school purchase new bikes for the children to use too and they are currently in the process of buying brand new helmets.

Assistant Headteacher at Pendle View, Karen Stinchon, said: “We have been wanting a cycle path for years.

“At £16,000 we couldn’t just afford that so we approached Mr Berkins to see if he wanted to contribute. He came down and had a look and said he wanted to fund it himself.

“He has just been fantastic, he’s organised all the workman and we’ve not had to do anything really. We have sent him thank yous and lovely cards from the children.

“The children are just loving it. For children with special needs, they can’t just go out on to the road. It’s been life-changing for them.”
