Barnoldswick Aldi store planning refusal: appeal in April

A DATE has been set for an appeal into two applications refused by Pendle Council which relate to the construction an Aldi supermarket in Barnoldswick.

The appeal will take place on Thursday, April 11th, at the Rainhall Centre, Barnoldswick. It is scheduled to start at 10am and is expected to last for one day.

Two separate appeals were submitted to the planning inspectorate by Kelbrook-based company Pendle Projects Limited in December. However, Aldi representatives are also anticipated being at the hearing.

Both appeals relate to the same site in Skipton Road Business Park, Barnoldswick, where, in August last year, Pendle Council refused consent to demolish buildings in a conservation area and also refused permission to build the supermarket.

At the time of the appeal’s submission, appellant Mark Taylforth, of Pendle Projects, said he remained “very disappointed” at how little the Aldi supermarket had featured during the debate at special meeting of Pendle Council’s West Craven Committee and councillors’ decision to go against the planning officer’s recommendation for approval.
