FIFTY bikers formed a sombre motorcade to pay tribute to a member of a Burnley motorcycle club who died last week.

Dad-of-two Mr Jeremy “Jez” White (47) died after he was in collision with a Ford Transit pick-up truck on the A682 in Blacko on Monday, April 23rd.

To pay their respects to Mr White, who belonged to the Burnley and District Motorcycle Club, fellow bikers braved the rain and rode out from the Lane Ends pub in Kiddrow Lane, Burnley, to the scene of the accident, in Gisburn Road, where they laid wreaths in his memory.

The procession was given a police escort as bikers, and several cars, made their way to the crash site.

They then returned to the pub to toast the father of two girls, aged five and seven.

Mr Nigel Saul, from the club, said it was a fitting tribute to Mr White, who had been a member of the club since its inception nine months ago and other biker organisations in the area.

Mr Saul said: “I think Jez would’ve approved. We all went back to the Lane Ends afterwards and had a toast for him.

“It wasn’t a bad turnout given the weather.

“I think he would’ve been laughing at us all getting wet. He had a great sense of humour.”

The stretch of road, between Nelson and Long Preston, is notorious for accidents and in 2010 was named in a list of the world’s top 10 dangerous roads.

Mr White’s Kawasaki 1100cc motorbike hit a wall after the collision, between Blacko Bar and the Moorcock Inn and he was thrown into a field. He was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact Lancashire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
