MAKING sure that people know who you are and what you do is one of the hardest things for a new business.

Even long-established companies need to ensure that their name remains in the spotlight.

And for the last 12 months one of Pendle’s newest companies has been helping companies keep their names up in lights.

Chris Durham was made redudant twice - once from a director’s role - in 12 months.

And he decided to try something different after a working life spent entirely in the local printing industry.

“Branding and using your company name effectively is tremendously important, especially in their current ecomnomic climate,” said Chris who set up Promico Ltd just over a year ago.

“At one of the printing companies I worked at, I received a desk calendar with a tear-off date every year from a local maintainence company.

“Whenever a press broke down, there was only ever one number I called.

“With that in mind, I decided that promoting companies’ brands and names was something that I could specliaise in and Promico came about with the help of business seminars and support from the Pendle Enterprise Haven in Nelson.”

Promico is now based in the Enterprise Haven and Chris continued: “Having been in the printing trade for more than 30 years I know all the procedures for printing, embossing, engraving and embroidery - and that is essentially what we do as a promotions company.

“There are about a million products that it is possible to brand.

“Pens, mugs and lanyards are always popular, but we have also done a lot of clothing.

“We can put a company name, brand or image on to virtually anything and it does not have to cost a lot.

Promico sourced T-shirts for the Pendle Witch Walk and also for Barrowford Celtic FC.

And, more unusually, Chris received an order for 500 wind-up torches for an exhibition in Dubrovnik which went from enquiry to delivery in just six days.

“There are a lot of people out there doing promotional goods, but buying off the internet does not necessarily give you a personal service,” added Chris. “One of the strengths of my business being a one-man operation is that I deal with everything from the initial enquiry to orders, proofs and delivery.”
