A RURAL Colne school has closed its doors for the day due to adverse weather conditions.

Laneshaw Bridge Primary School, in Emmott Lane, has been forced to call off classes because of the snow. It is not yet clear if it will re-open tomorrow.

Weather warnings for ice and snow have been issued for many parts of the UK, and people are being urged to remain aware of travel disruptions.

In a statement published yesterday Andy Page, Met Office chief forecaster, said: “We expect rain, sleet and snow to affect many parts of the UK over the next day or so, with eastern areas of Britain seeing the most snowfall.

“With some very low temperatures overnight we expect ice to cause some impacts too and people should be aware that there is likely to be some travel disruption.”
