Committees back land transfer call

Breaking News

MEMBERS of two Pendle Council committees have backed calls for an area of council-owned land to be transferred to a residents group.

Both the Nelson Committee and the Colne and District Committee have agreed that the land at Gib Hill between the two towns - currently in council owership but seen to be under threat for possible future housing development - should be transferred to the Gib Hill Residents Group on a 999-year lease.

Azhar Ali, a leading campaigner in the fight against the lane being developed, told the Colne Committee the land was worth nothing to the council.

Coun. Ian Tweedie said the transfer was a “brilliant idea” and Coun. Paul White said he was happy to support the suggestion but said Mr Ali was “scaremongering” as there were no plans to build on the land at the moment.
