Daisy boss wins national award

PENDLE’s highly-successful business boss Matthew Riley - chief executive officer of Daisy Group - has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to the communications industry nationally.

Last week, Mr Riley received BPL Publishing’s coveted Outstanding Contribution Award at the annual Communications National Awards, held at the Hilton, Park Lane, London.

As he was presented with the Cable & Wireless sponsored prize, Mr Riley was praised for a decade of service in which he has represented the telecoms “channel” and championed the success of independent service providers within the industry.

Today, he presides over a £350 million-turnover organisation, with more than 70,000 customers, 1,000 resellers, 250 business partners and 1,500 employees.

Awarding the prize, BPL Publisher Nigel Sergent said: “Through a combination of steely determination, personality and ambition, Matthew has garnered the financial support of some of the UK’s top business leaders and has spearheaded an acquisition trail which has created the UK’s largest independent provider of unified communications solutions.

“Since launching his business, he has always found time to support charitable causes and nowadays he plays an active role with The Prince’s Trust and also makes regular TV appearances challenging the business expertise and ambitions of young entrepreneurs.

“His business promises to deliver even more dynamic services to our industry in the years ahead.”

And Mr Riley said: “I am very proud and honoured to receive this award from my peers in the industry. It is great to see that Daisy is having such a large influence in the market and being recognised in this way.

“There is still more to come from Daisy and it is my ambition to help other communications companies to grow through via our wholesale, distribution and business partner divisions. As a business we know how to grow and we want to help others do the same.

“The achievements over the last 10 years would not have been possible without the hard work of Daisy’s fantastic staff and the support of our suppliers, partners and customers.”

Mr Riley was brought up in Pendle and still lives here along with his family. He set the business up himself and it has grown in massive ways over the past few years. He also regularly appears on BBC’s programme “The Apprentice”.
