Former Nelson cricketer and all-round sportsman Malcolm Bradley died suddenly at his home in Ford Street, Barrowford, on December 30th. He was 66.

Malcolm rose through the ranks at Nelson Cricket Club in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, top scoring with an innings of 75 runs for the first team and winning the reputation as one of the best close-to-the-bat fielders in the Lancashire League. He also served on the committee for a number of years.

Malcolm also played football, table tennis and badminton for the cricket club.

He was an outstanding golfer in his younger days, winning a number of competitions, and played league tennis until he was well past 40 years of age.

A single man, Malcolm kept an allotment in Barrowford for well over 30 years and ran a small landscaping business until ill health forced him into retirement.

After leaving Nelson Secondary Technical School at Edge End, Malcolm joined the civil service working in the District Valuer’s Office in Burnley.

Malcolm is survived by two elder brothers. He will be cremated at Burnley Crematorium on Monday.
