Executive to hear of council’s dozen awards

An update on the awards Pendle Council won during 2012 is on the agenda for its next Executive meeting on Thursday.

In the last 12 months, the council has won a dozen awards for services ranging from town centre regeneration to stray dog welfare.

Coun. Joe Cooney, Leader of the council, said: “2012 was a great year for Pendle Council in terms of recognition for the good work we do.

“These awards are down to our dedicated staff who work hard for the people of Pendle.

“Their efforts are certainly helping us to achieve our objective of delivering accessible services of good value and good quality.

“Having high quality services is excellent news for local residents, and winning awards for them is just the icing on the cake.”

The awards picked up by the council during 2012 are:

l A Royal Town Planning Institute Award for regeneration of Stanley Street, Nelson.

l Three awards for the redevelopment of Nelson town centre: a Natural Stone Sustainability Award in the landscaping category, a Street Design Award and a Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation Award.

lGreen Flag awards for seven of the parks across the borough.

l An RSPCA Gold Footprints Award for the fourth successive year.

l A Gold Investors in People award in recognition of the council’s commitment to ensuring the ongoing development of its staff.

l The SaBRE Award in recognition of its efforts to support Armed Forces volunteers across the borough.

l A highly commended in the MJ Achievement Awards for its Baby Safe project in partnership with the Lancashire NHS Foundation Trust and Help Direct.

l And an accolade from the Forum of Private Business for being the only council in Lancashire to make the top 10 best councils in the UK for paying its bills quickly.

And together with its partner Liberata, the council won a Gold Award for Excellence in Partnership Working and Silver award for Excellence in Innovation at the 2012 Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation Conference and the Business Partnership Award for Efficiency in Partnership Working from the Local Government Chronicle.
