POLICE are appealing for information after an elderly woman had a large amount of money stolen from her in Colne just before Christmas.

A woman is said to have approached the victim in a Market Street store between 11-30am and 12-10pm on December 21st, remaining in close proximity with her, and interfering with her handbag.

The offender is described as being white, around 40 or 50-years-old. quite tall, and of quite large build. She was wearing all black clothing, black rimmed glasses, and a large black hat which obscured her hair.

PC David Cleal said: “Thankfully a crime of this nature is rare, but we would urge members of the public to keep their personal possessions close to them, and to avoid carrying large amounts of cash or items of high value where possible.

“We are fully investigating this crime , and are confident we can bring the offender the justice.”

Anybody who recognises the person in the image is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
