Laneshaw Bridge bids for best-kept village glory

Laneshaw Bridge

Laneshaw Bridge

FOR the first time, Laneshaw Bridge has entered Lancashire’s “Best Kept Village” competition, and residents are being urged to do their bit to ensure the village looks good for the judging which will commence on June 9th.

And to get the village in tip top condition there will be three “Spring Clean for the Queen” days and villagers are being asked to arm themselves with brooms, trowels and bin bags to make the village sparkle.

The first of these takes place on Saturday with further ones on Saturday, May 26th, and Tuesday, June 5th. People wishing to help are asked to meet at the Methodist Chapel at 2 p.m. each day.

Judges will look at businesses, private property, facilities and highways in the village, and there is a lot of weeding, cleaning and litter picking to be done.

The parish council has also taken delivery of 1,500 red, white and blue plants this week to put in the various planters to make the village look suitably British for the Jubilee.

Newly elected borough councillor Margaret Foxley, who lives in the village, urged people to do their bit. “If residents can’t help on the Spring Clean days, we’d like them to do their bit by making sure their house or garden looks good, and to sweep the pavement outside their house too. If everyone does their bit, we can have the village looking great.”
