ANDI Trickett is determined to give up smoking so that he can raise charity funding for Pendleside Hospice in memory of his mother, who sadly died from cancer.

And you are invited to support his campaign. Andi (44), from Burns Street, Nelson, has given up this week and will remain cigaretteless, and you can sponsor him until February 11th in aid of the hospice.

His mum Mrs Edna Fallows died in 2010 aged 64 from cancer. She was a shop steward for the union GMP in Lancashire. She married her husband Tommy just nine days before she died, and Andi is still greatly saddened at losing her.

But he is absolutely determined to boost the hospice, where he is now a volunteer worker. He said: “I am looking forward to it, and the challenge is on now because I stopped smoking on Monday.”

You can sponsor the Stop Smoking Challenge by contacting the hospice via www.pendleside.org.uk, by email to fundraising@pendleside.org.uk or call 440100.

The Hospice Care for Burnley and Pendle’s costs this year will be in excess of £3.5 million and although it gets some funding from local health trusts, it needs to raise around £2.5 million via fund-raising events, sponsorship and donations.

So fund-raiser Samantha Bracewell said: “Your generous support of Andi taking part in this sponsored event for Pendleside would therefore be very much appreciated!”
