Man in court on robberies charge

A MAN is due to appear before Pennine magistrates this morning charged with five counts of robbery.

Christopher Birkett (25), of Railway Street, Nelson, is accused of the five robberies which occurred in Accrington and Padiham overnight between Sunday and Monday.

Three other men aged 20, 23 and 25 from Colne arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery remain in custody in custody being questioned.

A further arrest has also been made overnight, bringing the total number of people arrested to five. The 19-year-old from Colne has also been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and is currently in custody.
